Bucket List Hunts?

So what's on your bucket list? Mine are:

Moose
Bison
Mountain Lion
Coues Deer
Sitka Blacktails

CalHunter 12-29-2016 05:22 PM

Wall tent hunt on horses for elk
Bison
Mountain Lion
Caribou
Brown bear (prolly too pricey at this point)

jeepkid 12-29-2016 05:38 PM

Grand Slam.

CalHunter 12-29-2016 05:56 PM

Now that would be a dream come true.

Bocajnala 12-29-2016 07:53 PM

I think if it had to be one it would probably be a brown bear in Alaska... I never see myself being able to spend that kind of money though. Also high on my list would be moose, dall sheep, and caribou... Maybe I should just move to Alaska.

moosemike 12-30-2016 03:51 AM

Upper Peninsula whitetails (planning that one for 2017)
Columbian blacktails
Sitka blacktails
Maybe? another Moose (already have three)

kidoggy 12-30-2016 04:49 AM

I'd be happy with a bucket.

flags 12-30-2016 04:56 AM

Lord Derby Eland and Bongo in Cameroon.

grinder67 12-30-2016 05:06 AM

bull elk with rifle, muzzleloader or bow

Bob H in NH 12-30-2016 05:58 AM

Never been interested in bears or lions.

Bighorn sheep would be at the top
bugling elk (got one rag horn, would love move). Ideally horse back ride in tent camp
after this year I think I could be happy with mulie/antelope hunts!

Rob in VT 12-30-2016 06:24 AM

Which Grand Slam are you speaking of jeepkid?

I would love a Bighorn sheep but it is way out of my price range.

Sheep. Definitely out of my price range. :s7:

Jim Shockey is the only one I've seen shoot a Bongo. Looks like a pretty difficult hunt.

Yep, one of the hardest hunts there is. I know a guy that got one and it took him 6 safaris before he did at $40K a pop. To say bongo are difficult is an understatement. If you hit a stretch with no rain then it is nearly impossible.

Oldtimr 12-30-2016 08:51 AM

I have a friend that has a full bodied Bongo that he took in his African Game room. They are beautiful animals. I don't know where he took it but from what I have read, they live in the nastiest jungles in Africa where you only see small pieces of their body if you do see one.

Bocajnala 12-30-2016 10:18 AM

Not really a single hunt, but I recall reading an article of a guy who got, or was attempting to get a deer in all fifty states(or maybe just 49?) I've tried to find that article recently and couldn't. But I think it would be a fun lifetime hunting goal. And would give a Hunter a chance to see and hunt all over without breaking the bank as badly as some of these other hunts.

I recall that article also, but I have no idea where I saw it at! Deer in all 50/49 States (or 57 like our President thinks) would be a blast!

CalHunter 12-30-2016 11:03 AM

Are you thinking of this guy?

My bucket list is to just remember all my hunts.....:biggrin::biggrin:

Rob in VT 12-30-2016 02:06 PM

And that's a tall order for you CI. :)

One thing for sure...I'll never forget our hunts together. I figure between the Newfoundland hunts and then the many years Colorado...my bucket is filled. I have enough memories to last a lifetime. That last bull elk was the best hunt in my whole life. Nothing could have been more exciting seeing as the whole herd was up close and personal and I could hear the bull coming up through the canyon thickets. Many thanks Rob.

Bocajnala 12-30-2016 08:52 PM

Cal, that article sounds familiar. Not sure if it's the one I read before or not. But would certainly be a fun way to spend some money.

I have half the slam: Stone sheep from BC. Not a very good mount (neck too skinny) but I was tight on funds and used a taxidermist that was cheap but not very good. Lesson learned on that. The whitetail is a PA buck and is the best buck I've taken there. 8 pt with an 18 inch spread.

Bighorn from CO

The goat is also from CO and the Auodad and blackbuck were taken free range outside Pearsall, TX on a buddy's place. The blesbok is from RSA.

Rob in VT 12-31-2016 07:09 AM

Cool sheep Flags. I like your Auodad mount. Would like to hunt them free range sometime also.

Rob in VT 12-31-2016 07:11 AM

Yes CI those were fun times. That last elk hunt was one to remember. We will need to get you back out to burn your deer points sometime!

Jim Zumbo hunted deer in all 50 states.

Even Hawaii has some deer.

Rob in VT 12-31-2016 12:28 PM

I think Hawaii has Axis deer.

salukipv1 12-31-2016 01:01 PM

NA10, then I want to chase the NA29 or whatever is left/possible to hunt at that point, maybe the NA25? of course some animals I'm not crazed to chase at this point, but perhaps down the road, those will become more appealing to me.

I was fresh out of college when I read an article about apply for points now! I was 24? my first 2 states/hunts I applied for were

Montana Bighorn Sheep
Nevada Elk.

So I'd say those may be my top 2 dream hunts since I've in a sense been chasing them the longest, or they were my first inspiration, just knowing one day I'll draw those tags, especially the bighorn really excites me.

Other hunts that just get me excited are;

Sitka Blacktail in AK, DIY or self guided.... although probably outfitted...

All of the NA10, I want a Moose, a Caribou, a cougar would also be a dream hunt, pretty sure I have the mount already picked out! haha. but I know it's no slam dunk.

and of course I still need a nice ELK...

oh my god! I almost forgot the MUSK OX! I remember seeing learning about these as a kid, and saying one day I will hunt and get a musk ox!
It's wild to me so many of the big game mammals in NA that so many people don't even know exist! I guess that's because they're non hunters?

That's my semi short dream hunt list!

thanks for the topic!

salukipv1 12-31-2016 01:07 PM

Very Nice!

You could remount/stuff that neck if you really wanted to.

Pretty much everything I'm interested in hunting is right out my back door here in Montana. I could see going to Alaska - either Alsaka Moose or a great big caribou.

I put in for mountain goat every year, to no avail. I suppose you could call that my bucket list hunt. Not that I'm really a hardcore trophey hunter at all, but I just think hunting goats up above timberline would be a very unique adventure.

SILVERTIP-CO 01-10-2017 06:20 PM

bucket list hunts

1. any hunt I could afford with john Porter and Morning Creek Outfitters.

2. elk and muley hunt with RobinVT :)

Rob in VT 01-11-2017 09:00 AM

Hahaha, you're funny Silvertip! :)

DIY Elk hunt.

the blur 02-06-2017 12:58 PM

I just spoke with a few African guides. Can't bring the meat home, so it's off my bucket list.

It isn't Africa that says you can't bring it in. It is the USA. If it is any consolation to you none of the meat goes to waste and you get to eat an awful lot of it while you are there.

The joys of the internet.

Here's an African PH whose dream hunt is a DIY Elk hunt, something that I've been doing out my back door for 40+ years, and I dream about hunting critters in his back yard in Africa.

Sounds like an opportunity for some trading...

buffybr 02-16-2017 07:39 PM

As for my Bucket List, I've been fortunate enough to have lived most of my life in Colorado and Montana where I've been able to have hunted most of the Bucket Lists of the previous 3 pages. My first Bighorn Sheep cost me $25 for a Montana resident Unlimited unit tag (30 years ago), and a tank of gas.

My hunting passion has evolved to hunting new and different animals that has taken me on multiple hunts in Africa, Canada, and New Zealand where I have fulfilled several bucket lists.

My Bucket List this year will include a hunt for Dagestan Tur in Azerbaijan in August, and hunt in Québec for Caribou in September.

:busted: I have watched just about every Elk hunt there is on YouTube. Apart from Elk being such a beautiful animal it is more about how the hunts are conducted which intrigues me. Guess Im a sucker for pain and would look forward to a pack out! We have had quite a few clients hunt with us that have told me stories about hunting Elk, always enjoy sitting round the fire listening to those stories and vice versa them listening to our African hunting stories.

I will do it one day for sure.

Alsatian 02-22-2017 12:25 PM

Chamois hunt in Europe, maybe in high Swiss mountains.

Sheep hunt via pack trip in NW Canada, in the vein of Jack O'Connor's hunts.

But frankly my yearly first rifle season elk hunts in SW Colorado camping at 11500 feet in a canvas wall tent with a wood burning stove is pretty close to the best hunt I can imagine.
