Getting ready for 2016 Yukon moose hunt. Anybody have recommendations or advice? :s13:

Or the mud.

Lord you know it! I've downed a couple in water and they were hard enough. But that thick mud is dang near impossible to get a big bull out of!

Or in the bottom of a brush filled ravine. Matter of fact, when it comes to things like moose it is impossible to shoot one too close to camp or too close to the road!

Don't you know it, LOL! The only moose hunt I've been on was to help my Wyoming buddy on an Idaho OIL Shiras tag he drew in 2007. We ended up with one that just broke 38", but he could have shot several better ones that were just too darn far from our DIY camp. Man, I thought the bull elk we shoot were big until that big sucker hit the ground and I walked up to it! John is going to draw his Wyoming Shiras tag next year and I'll go on that hunt too, but it will be on horseback with the same fellow that we're going with on our high country hunt for mulies this September. Knowing that we have horses for the real back breaking work should make it a very enjoyable hunt.

Only been on 2 Moose hunts where I had access to Horses or a vehicle. One in Main and one In B.C. And all I can say is DAYUMN was it nice! All others have been drop in's and I don't believe I have ever been closer than a dang mile from my camp when I connected with a Bull or Cow. It's like they knew and they were going to make sure I was going to have to work HARD for my meal!

Advise from an old timey hunter........best place to shoot a moose is as close to your vehicle as possible;)

That goes for elk too. If only it was possible. The elk don't seem to want to hang out where I park the Jeep.
