Great write up. What caliber and bullet were you using that the one shot barely penetrated the hide?

I can't remember what site it was on, but the Op finally remembered after sitting down and really looking back at the shots that the bullet was recovered on the exit side and not the near side that he originally thought!

Thanks Topgun. I know elk are tough, but that would really be a tough one, if it's stopping bullets cold like that.

Very nice write up on your hunt and the pictures were great, kinda puts a person in the hunt, being a flat lander I have wanted to go on a Elk hunt for many yrs but my heart went out on me so any climbing like you did and packing in is out of the picture for me now but some how I will hopefully find a way to do a Elk hunt and I still have a Ak bear hunt on my bucket list.
Thanks for taking the time to do the write up.
