I' ll be going elk hunting next year and can' t decide on a cow or bull tag. I' ll be hunting in Colorado with some guys that have been at it for a while but I still can' t decide. There is about a hundred dollar difference in tag prices between the two, you know which one is more expensive.
What do you guys suggest???

The hundred buck' s shouldn' t make any difference at this point,Where are you hunting? do your buddie' s usually tag a bull or are they interested in only filling the freezer? which would you prefer to hunt ? What' s the bull success ratio in that area? Personally I like the challenge of a bull, I love the experience and usually I get to hunt longer, (except 2001 6:45 AM opening morning ) Good Luck

CJW,
CO has too many elk. You might want to find out what units your friends are considering hunting. In many units, they don' t even offer " just" a bull tag, you can either get a cow tag for $250 or an either-sex tag for $480. This year I drew an either-sex tag as a second choice, so I got a preference point and my tag. Consider putting in for an either-sex tag. If you don' t draw, then you can decide on bull or cow with the leftover or unlimited tags.
Good luck with your hunt!

Hey CJW,
I drew a either sex tag as a second choice in SW Colorado. I leave tomorrow AM for the hunt that starts the 11th. An either sex tag will cost the same as a bull but you have the opportunity to bull hunt the first part of the season and then may take a cow (if lucky enough) as a " consolation prize" . I hear them there cows eat better n the bulls anyway
.
Take care, good huntin and may God bless you and yours.
