Thumbs up Black bear hunting in the south!

I have never hunted any bear, or anything other than targets and a few doves and quail that scare the crap out of me when they finally decide to fly up. I would love to go black bear hunting, I am a shotgun lover and never had much use for a big bore rifle. So but I love to shoot rifled slugs that are made for smooth bore 28" vent rib barrels.

Todays slugs are accurate out to 200 yds. and with a lot of energy at that range. I read where some have taken black at 150 yds. and with a 16ga. rifled slug shot gun. I use 1600 feet per second Winchester slugs. But some slugs will shoot 2200 ft. per second and do not start dropping till well past 100yds. The slugs I use start to drop past 50yds.

Does any of you guys use a shotgun to bear hunt? let me know!

You have a rifled barrel shotgun? Or just smoothbore for skeet and birds?

It is a smooth bore barrel that can shoot hollow point rifled slugs designed for a stock 28" vent rib smooth bore barrels. Finally a slug that will not damage a stock barrel with a modified factory screw in choke.

Do you bear hunt with a shotgun! let me know if you do!

if you can hit him, it will kill a bear, they ain't hard to kill, they can't take a good hit nearly as well as a whitetail

Agreed but you must hit the vitals or it's going to be a long day.

I would hate to miss and have the animal suffer from my poor judgment. I would take a shot that I'm sure of, then if I miss shame on me.

With a smoothbore and rifled slugs, I would keep my shots under 50 yards.

Totally agree with you as bears have a lot of fat and causes some wounds to stop bleeding and lose the blood trail. Hope you get the chance as I love to hunt bears but the wife holds me back because she thinks I don't need another. (What does she know)
