Default Remington 770

Looking at picking one up. Read alot of bad reviews on the 770. Has Remington improved them in the last year or so?

Don't do it car, as they are junk and you can put a little more money into a Ruger or Savage and have a good rifle that won't fall apart!

Lol thanks Topgun. How this all came about is I have $300 in Walmart gift cards to spend. So I'm looking at picking up a new gun. Walmart has a Rem 770 in 300 Win Mag for $299. Almost bought it right away but, decided to look up the 300 to see if it was really that much better than my 7mm Rem Mag I have now. Alot of bad reviews on the 770.

You know I tell it like it is, especially to somebody I consider a good friend! Remington should be ashamed to put their name on that POS!

I was surprised as well. I own several Remington and couldn't be happier with them. I just saw it was a Rem and thought wow less than $300 for a 300 Min Mag what a deal. You would think as long as the 770 has been out that Rem would have made some changes to make it a reliable firearm.

I used to be a Remington guy. Was not happy with my last 2 purchases from them. Last 3 I've bought have been Savages, and am happy with them.

Well I ended up with a Weatherby Vanguard series 1 in a 300 WSM.
Looking forward to shooting it, that is if I can find some ammo for it. I should be able to take it on my bear hunt this Sept to break it in.

I'll need to pick up a scope for it soon.

Good choice!. My 300 WSM is a 1 in 10 twist. Mine shoots the 180 grain the best. My buddies is a 1 in a 11 twist and his shoots the 165 grain the best.

Don't worry about ammo, there is plenty available. Online or in the store.

I'd be interested in knowing what your twist is and how long is your barrel?

You are going to be very happy with the short action and the shorter barrel. That gun should be a pleasure to carry for years!

Congrats!!

Nice, though, as I said earlier, I've ended up buying Savage lately, I had Weatherby on the short list recently. Good choice.
