Default 357 for bear?

How effective would a 357 carbine loaded up with the CorBon 200 gr. hardcast be on black bear inside of 100 yds.? I think this round will give me a muzzle energy of about 1250 foot pounds and about 850 foot pounds at 100 yds. with complete penetration. Also, would this be a good round for whitetails?

Default RE: 357 for bear?

Should do the trick for whitetails, but if toting a carbine for actually hunting bears, I believe I'd opt for something with a larger bore (.44,.444, or .45-70), or chambered in a true rifle cartridge. But that said, you've probably picked the best bullet for a .357; should give good damn good penetration! Good luck...
