Montana antelope

I've lived in Montana for 20 years and have never hunted antelope. I drew an archery permit this year and season opens next wednesday. Bow sighted in out to 80 yards. Hope I can find time to hunt working 2 jobs.

Never? What have you been doing? haha.

Before I was just working 1 job but also going to school full time. Now working the 2 jobs to pay off school. Between that and family, hard to get a lot of hunting time.

you may be able to get much closer than 80yds during bow antelope...

a blind...

stalking/decoying...

I practice that far but have never shot at an animal with a bow farther than 45 yards. I'm comfortable out to 50 so that is what I consider my effective yardage to be.

Thanks. Season opened today, but I have to work. :( Hopefully I can get out this week. Rancher is keeping an eye on the area and will call me when he sees some good groups of antelope.

Thanks everyone. Got out for a few hours yesterday. Got to 130 yards of a group that had a really nice buck. Tried a sneak behind the decoy since it was so flat. He didn't have any of that and took off with the herd. They were in the next county in about 2 seconds. On the way back to the truck, I wasn't paying attention and walked within 2 feet of a 3 1/2 foot rattler. Took care of him with an arrow after my heart quit racing.

HD, if you have a blind try placing it by an open gate on a fenceline with the decoy, antelope love open fences and will travel a long way down a fenceline to walk through it. I have also had great luck with a blind and decoy in small low spots in alfalfa fields that are still a little green, or if you guys are in as bad as a drought as we are then the old waterhole sit could work too. good luck

Thanks, but there lies the problem. I'm hunting a huge ranch, mostly barley and wheat stubble. No fences and closest water I know of is a creek on another property. I'm still trying to learn the land but it is very flat.
