I've thought about it all my life as a hunter. If bait and tree/ground stands were the only legal way to hunt. I never would have become a hunter.

Because they out number us hunters and the anti's combined. And despite not hunting themselves they vote on issues and for politicians that will affect your ability to hunt in this country. I have talked to many of them over the years and have yet to find one that liked Ted Nugent. Not everyone in the hunting community likes Ted and the only people who do like Ted are people who are already firmly in our camp to start with. In other words he draws "NO ONE" to our side that wasn't already there and actively drives the middle ground folks away.

That is why I take every opportunity to tell people that Ted is not my chosen leader or advocate. I have never voted for the man to be anything for me. And I wish that hunting and firearms related organizations would stop giving him honorary positions just because he has a little celebrity status from being in a decent rock band 3 or 4 decades ago.

He acts like a classless redneck goober. Every time I have ever paused for a moment on his show he was shooting some semi-domesticated animal in a pen at the Y&O ranch. He runs a canned hunt operation himself. He is establishing a pattern of violating game laws. Yes, he has only been written up twice but I have heard descriptions of other instances where he should have been and simply was allowed to slide . Probably because of his celebrity status. He's a draft dodger. He has had sex with a very underage girl. A deadbeat dad that refused to pay child support. Ever read one of his books and made note of some of the unethical behavior mentioned in them? Claims of shooting at Bison hundreds of yards away with a 9mm pistol just to list one.

I could go on and on. You guys like who you want, but in my opinion you have to drop your standards pretty low to idolize this guy.

Very good point

Alsatian 04-28-2012 10:37 AM

My two cents is that Nugent is not an asset to the shooting or the hunting community, that his net impact is negative rather than positive. He feeds the paranoia of the anti-gun crowd with his outrageous sheenanagans (going on stage with a "machine" gun -- the form of a machine gun -- really? that's supposed to help us out?).

I can understand one hunting regulation error -- we are all subject to error -- but not several. You have to know the laws. You should know the laws. You shouldn't depend on your guides to know the laws. I know it is sometimes complicated and intricate to know these laws, but notwithstanding you should learn them.

As far as this thread goes it is 7 for the nuge and 17 against the nuge.Looks like we know where hunters stand on this issue.

In case anyone is interested, he is an interview by Glenn Beck and Ted Nugent.

Look real close at that shot on the bear. Try and stop the action when the arrow hits. It was a solid hit.

I'm not buying Ted's crap.

Blackelk 04-29-2012 05:17 AM

Ted has become the Lindsey Lohan of the hunting community time for him to be put in detox.

sdhunter11 04-29-2012 05:57 AM

I just now watched the video and here is what i got out of it. We all need to bow down to that patriotic, conservative, enviromentalist man they call ted nugent lol what a joke. Every time he speaks he just brags himself up. I think i will just stick to watching eastmans hunting journal and bowhunter tv.

WNYhunter 04-29-2012 10:10 AM

Hey right or wrong, how many people here have taken on a crowd against dove hunting? Or taken on a crowd for gun control laws? Or baiting laws? Or even the president of the US?

My guess is none. He is where he is at cause he is ted nugent. Like him or hate him, when he opens his mouth people listen, for or against. When he opens his mouth he says what he feels and he is not affraid to say it like it is.

Mabey the NRA will knock on my door wanting me to be the voice of the "NRA", then again, mabey not.

Muley Hunter 04-29-2012 10:39 AM

Being a rock star qualifies him for none of this.

Who voted him into this position?

sdhunter11 04-29-2012 02:28 PM

"it just fell into my lap" is what he said in the video link above. yeah right, and anna nicole married for love i suppose.

When the man (idiot) opens his mouth I switch channels!!!

Do you really think maybe is spelled "mabey"?

If you like Ted or not, bottom line is, when they are going after Ted, they are going after you.

bob in pa 04-29-2012 06:12 PM

Just read this whole thread on nuge and his poaching. I know im in the minority but I heard him at the NRA meeting last year and at the end of it he was raising money to take kids with disabilities on hunts. I agree he's a bit brash but he is on our side and no one is ever going to turn me against him. Not everyone likes me either but we all try to do our best. He is a great advocate for hunting and the 2nd amendment and I pity the gun hater or anti hunter who has to debate against him!

sdhunter11 04-29-2012 06:52 PM

I dont see him as a great advocate at all. He does do great things for kids and injured soldiers but when it comes down to him talking on our behalf he is slapping us in the face. He should just stick to his charity hunts.

WNYhunter 04-30-2012 06:58 AM

maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe ..... got it. what a joke that was the best you could come up with. you had to copy my post just to point that out, well you are of supreme intelligence I see.

PS you get 5points for every mispelled word I have lol

Muley Hunter 04-30-2012 07:46 AM

What can we buy with all the points? :poke:

*** Bob in PA---I agree with you 100%. He's far from perfect, but I'd still rather have him on my side than against!

Muley Hunter 05-02-2012 07:24 PM

Oh ok. I couldn't believe they were calling that a nick.

Trouble is bob that in order for him to debate with anyone is that he normally has to resort to name calling and insults to get his point across................this thread wasn't about his charity work or anything else except about his poaching activities, which I firmly believe he uses to bolster his TV show ratings therefor putting money in his pocket, it was not about his participation in canned/ high fence hunts or his marketing of said same...only about his poaching!!

Phil from Maine 05-03-2012 06:50 AM

As with poaching comes the negative effect on all hunters. So how can he be supported when it is only really about himself? I feel he should of just faced the issue as well as any fall out from it. A poacher is a poacher and it does not do any law abiding hunter any good at all.

Topgun 3006 05-07-2012 06:32 PM

Why are guys using the word "poacher" as he never "poached" a thing? He did not do anything that is normally classified as "poaching" by most hunters. He violated several laws and regulations and paid the penatlies assessed, but IMHO that is not a proper term to use for what he did. End of story!

Muley Hunter 05-07-2012 07:07 PM

What were the charges for the fines he paid?

finnbear 05-07-2012 07:31 PM

Hmmmmmmmmmm is there a different word to describe someone who kills game animals illegaly????
Killing a animal outside the law is poaching...I don't care how ya slice it, it comes back to poaching!!!!!!! Killing an illegal buck over bait in california would be called what??? POACHING!!!!!!!!
