Default Most vocal big game animal?

Got into a discussion with a buddy about which was the most vocal North American big game animal. He said whitetail and I said elk. Which one is it and is there one thats more vocal than both of them?

I think its elk of course because of the yearly bugling frenzy but also I think during the year the cows are very vocal. Came up on a herd not 2 weeks ago and I heard em long before I saw em. They were making all kinds of racket.

What do ya' ll think?

Although I' ve never heard an elk, I think I' d have to agree. Two years now hunting whitetails and only once did I hear a tending grunt. Turned out to be his fatal mistake, but two grunts don' t seem to that much talking to me.

I agree on the elk vote. I have had some knowledgable hunters comment that in the area that I hunt, the deer do seem to be very vocal....? Why, and if so, who knows? But I have heard many bucks going friggen gonzo at times when chasing does. Heard em before I saw them...and some long ones too. But elk are no doubt (IMHO) alot more vocal. Speaking of that, 6 weeks from today I' ll be packing in with the muzzle loader chasing elk...oh yeah!!

Elk. Hands down. Bugling, mewing, barking, yipping, squealing, etc, etc.

No two ways about it, elk all the way. I’ve hunted deer for years and have never even heard one. Not one grunt. Hunted elk only twice and couldn’t get over how loud they could get
