Bear hunting in 2011?

Who is Bear hunting this year and where are you headed?

Poor Man 03-14-2011 11:14 PM

Colorado where it is illegal to bait! Lots don't hunt them exclusively here because it takes different methods to harvest. There are some monster bears here though. My website has pictures of a few nice bears and a big one shot last year, for some examples.

I am planning to bear hunt in Slovakia, Europe. The licenses are very difficult to get hold of but I managed to get three for the 2011 season.

Hunting regards

Being from BC, I have decent Black bear hunting right outside my door, but I think i will be doing some scrounging around for a big fella with my bow this spring... Not sure if i will head to the coast or not... Should be able to get a 400lb + bear without going to the coast...

bchunts 03-15-2011 11:37 AM

Heading to Alberta the end of May.

Muley Hunter 03-15-2011 02:10 PM

No interest in bear hunting.

They taste like an oily rag.

Daveboone 03-15-2011 03:06 PM

For my third year in a row I am heading up to New Brunswick the end of may. Starting to get excited! As a matter of fact, I picked up a new flashlight to day for the trip.

scottb3472 03-16-2011 08:19 PM

Going to hunt spring bear season and fall bear season if i don't get a spring bear, As far as location, i'll be hunting right here in nw Montana.

Schultzy 03-17-2011 01:33 PM

Eagle are tough to eat. They peck your eyes out when you're eating them.

dig4gold 03-18-2011 07:41 AM

Staying at home in Wyoming near Arlington. Over bait . . . with a bow . . . and a really slow friend!!

car 03-18-2011 03:54 PM

If I don't draw a moose tag I'll try to put together a bear hunt.

4everbowhunt 03-19-2011 03:54 PM

I'll be hunting here at home in New Brunswick for the spring season except for the first week in June when I have 3 hunters from Indiana coming. Two of them hunted with me 3 years ago and took their bears the first and second night.

gun870guy 03-19-2011 06:39 PM

I'm goin home to Star Lake NY

Muley Hunter 03-19-2011 07:23 PM

Do you guys really like the taste of bear meat?

justhunt1 03-20-2011 06:48 AM

I am sure everyones tastes vary. We use bear, instead of pork to cut into our Moose,Elk and deer for ground meat and sausage. Bear nachos rock!

Muley Hunter 03-20-2011 08:03 AM

Yeah, deer can taste pretty bad if it's on the wrong diet too.

I must have tried bear meat that was eating at the dump.

Maybe i'll try again. Hunting bear without a stand or bait is a real challenge.

Schultzy 03-20-2011 03:59 PM

Everyone's taste buds are different but bear meat that taste's like crap most likely wasn't taken care of properly when It was killed. Bear have allot of fat Inside the meat and along the hide. The biggest no no people do Is not getting them cooled right away. Bear meat Is my favorite big game animal to eat.

Bear hunting can be just as challenging In certain parts of the country using bait as well. Come on up to Minnesota and do a public land hunt If you don't believe me. ;)

Muley Hunter 03-20-2011 04:12 PM

I didn't kill the bear meat I tried. I'm pretty good about taking care of my meat.

I've still hunting for bear a few times, but was never happy with the shots I had, so never took them. I still haven't killed one yet.

It's hard to get me away from elk hunting. It's the biggest joy in my life.

Not sure why I took Muley Hunter as a name. :confused0024:

SJAdventures 03-20-2011 06:15 PM

If I get to go it will be New Brunswick.

You got that right, elk hunting Is a blast and a huge rush!! I wish I lived closer to the mountains. I've elk hunted In 3 different states and bought a bear tag In all 3 states. 2 of the 3 states I did and stalk on a bear but passed on them being they were a tad to small. Elk hunting, that's another story. Them suckers have kicked my butt and then some!! I love hunting them though.

Best of luck getting yourself a bear. Looking forward to hearing about It. :cool2:

id love to go on a bear hunt. im trying to make a trade( kansas whitetail for a bear) with someone from WY hoping it works out

Wheatley 03-23-2011 10:10 AM

I have been wanting to hunt bear as well. I have bought tags for the fall while I was elk hunting but I have yet to see one. I am thinking about trying the spring bear hunt in the same area. I have crossed fresh tracks in the snow while elk hunting so I know they are there. I have also been considering a guided hunt in Northwest Montana since I have no clue about size. Trying to get the wife talked into it as well as myself.

Have you tried to call them in? They'll come to a predator call.

Wheatley 03-23-2011 07:02 PM

Muley,

I have never even thought about trying that. Couldn't hurt I guess. I may just have to go on an early season camping trip this year. Ha!

SledDoggie 03-27-2011 10:57 AM

Going to Quebec, Canada in June with my 17 year old son, my uncle and another guy. Great camp, killed 2 bears and a moose there. Great pike and trout fishing in the AM.

Good luck to everyone going out.

steve2064 03-27-2011 01:23 PM

In my own backyard of southern Ontario. Had them taking the bait last fall but they didn't come in when I was on stand. Better luck this Sept.

onebigelk 03-27-2011 11:18 PM

Planning on buying a bear tag to carry while bow hunting for elk in sw colorado this fall. Two years ago while elk hunting there i saw one black and one chocolate. The choc and i came face to face(about 10 yards) on a trail. Very exciting. Can't wait to get back.

Headed to northern Saskatchewan may 29th. I hope they are up and moving by then.

TheCReW 05-27-2011 08:59 PM

We will be hunting them in our back yard...lol. We didnt hunt bears at all until we moved to Northern Saskatchewan and it seemed they were as thick as coyotes. They were constantly in the yard, so we started hunting them and have taken a bunch, it is a totally different kind of hunt. Alot of fun though for sure. Good luck to all!

Maceman66 06-14-2011 05:16 PM

We didnt draw Minnesota tags so we are trying to put a new hunt together. Any suggestions? Would trade a whitetail hunt in Iowa.

charlie brown 06-15-2011 02:26 PM

I will be heading to California the last two weeks of October for a bear hunt with my hounds. Should be a good time. And my friend that I am going with can make some killer bear teriyaki jerky :D
