Default Cheapest Non-Res Elk Tag

I was curious if any of you experienced elk hunters could tell me two things.
1 - What state offers the cheapest non-res elk tag
2 - In your opinion, which state offers the best VALUE for non-res elk hunting (this would take into account price of tag, chance of being drawn, and size of bull elk being hunted)

Thanks for your input - I hope to get to experience my first elk hunt in the next years!

Alaska is $300 for an elk tag and $85 for a non-resident hunting license. Of course elk hunting up here is kind of like being water-boarded and beaten with a length of garden hose at the same time.

Colorado is one of the cheapest, and has one of the largest herds. That being said, any elk you shoot can be a trophy.

Price is all relative to what you want to shoot. Guided hunts are going to run anywhere from 4-5 grand on up to whatever you want to spend.

A DIY hunt will still probably put you back couple grand depending on where you go and what your current gear selection is.

Start researching now, and also get in better shape now. Hard as hell to do it 30 days prior to the hunt.

Travel expenses add up fast if you drive or fly out to the hunt. Elk are large animals and once you shoot one the work really begins. Make sure you have a plan on what/how your going to have the meat transported and processed.
