I plan to go black bear hunting for the first time this year. I plan to get a climbing stand since tree stands on public hunting land here is not legal. Baiting is also legal so I am going to go out and hopefully find an area where black bears have been. and spray some bear bomb around and see if it draws them in.
Im new to this so any advice/tips, would be appreciated.

Find the berry's you'll find the bears, bait with something sweet like donut's, old bread, melassis, corn. If they are around they should hit it in a day or two. Evenings are best to hunt, no need to go to high up the tree 10-12 feet is lots enough.

Baiting is not allowed in my state. Thats why I was going to use the Bear Bomb, and everyone that i've talked to so far says the Oil of Anise is the best. It has no nutritional value so it can't be taken as a bait.

I live in PA so I can't bait, but I have heard guys swear buy this. Try bear crack. Get a pot and put maple syrup, marshmallows, jello, sugar, dog food in and cook it outside. Its suppose to attract bears like crazy. I'm not sure if that's the exact recipe but you can look it up online. Basically anything with sugar will work. I also heard Bacon grease works well

I meant to say illegal. I get a little confused when i'm trying to type something Baiting or dog hunting is NOT allowed. The berries is a good idea though. I don't know of any private land that has bears so i'm going to go to public hunting land. I guess I need to look for a book about finding wild berries and stuff. It could take a long time to find wild berries in a 15,000+ acre swamp. But that is a good tip though, I never even thought to look for berries. I have read that is an important food source for them for winter.

I got a little mixed up with the typing, baiting in NC is not legal. that was why i mentioned the bear bomb. It is a spray that you are supposed to spray around on trees and bushes and stuff and its supposed to draw the bears in pretty good.

Around here they would be in the blueberries, rasberries, pincherry, cholkcherry. If the bears are in the berries on the ground there will be paths through it a packed down grass. For the berries in the trees the branches will be freshly broke.

ill have to look for that. Ive been reading a bit about certain areas that berries grow. I see that they are common in areas of direct sunlight. I also see follow the birds but they could be going towards anything. Ill have to get out there early and scout a little bit, find some areas that have berries. got a lot of walking to do on 15,000 acres. haha
