Default Any one hunt the Gunnison CO. area

Looking for some info from hunters who have hunted near Gunnison CO. I am going to either buy a tag left over else where or buy one over the counter near Gunnison. Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks:

Mac

My father and his buddy hunted near gunnison last year. My father called in a nice 5x5 that his buddy ended up shooting at 7 yards. However the area they were in was just changed to a draw only area so check the map careful before you buy your tag

Elk is what I really want or mule deer, my second choice. I think Rifle or muzzle loader. I might even settle for a cow tag as I want the meat, mmmmgood!

My family has elk hunted unit 67, south of Gunnison, since 1967. We do very well during rifle season, used to go 2nd season but now they hunt first season. I haven't rifle hunted with them for several years now, but my wife and I went camping in the same area just 2 weeks ago and saw elk from camp.
SO if unit 67 is on your radar, PM me and I can maybe help ya out.

Thanks alot Howler. I def. will get back to you. I have a cousin that lives in Denver and he goes every year he can. He always buys left over tags but he has hunted unit 67 before. He was at a funeral two weeks ago and he said they saw a lot of elk down there(67). My cousin is setting everything up for us but any info I can get, will be appreciated.
