Rifle, bow, muzzleloading, what? Where are you hunting? Pa.? If Pa. wear lot's of orange and good luck!

The one thing I used to do back when I could bait (hence illegal in colorado now) was to dig a hole about 18" deep. First I would pour ten pounds of sugar in the hole then about a gallon of syrup right on top of it. Then load the hole with donuts and dog food for filler. The sugar and syrup would mix into the ground and keep the bear there for a longer period licking the hole. Worked nice for not having to have a re bait if I showed up at the wrong time if the bear had already been there he would come back by and continue going at the hole.
