Have you used one your self or are you just assuming that it doesn't work !!

Yes we tried one a few years ago and it didn't work... We got to almost 800 yards before they bolted just outta bow range.

we made one out of plywood one time to stalk geese feeding in corn fields. worked ok as they seem to let there guard down some but was still tuff to get into shotgun range of them. but they would have been gone in out of rifle range with out it so like I say it worked but??? Good luck if you try it let us know how it goes.

I have seen two guys succesfully use a brown blanket on Pronghorns to get into rifle range. I doubt the cow decoy would work every time, but I am certain it would work often enough to make it a tactic worth trying. I think it would have to be in a pasture/area where the goats were used to seeing cattle.

I can't imagine carrying anything extra in the places I elk hunt.

Champlain Islander - Have you seen the decoys from Montana Decoy. They are screen printed on a layer of fabric and are flat. They only weigh a few ounces. Their two dimensional nature works on prey animals because the majority of prey animals have very poor depth perception due to their eyes being located on the sides of the head. Pronghorns with their bulbous 8-10x eyes are known to have particularly poor depth perception.
