The 270 is plenty of gun. If you are comfortable with it then take it. I hunted NE Wyoming a few years ago and my dad and uncle both got deer with a 270 and neither deer went far at all. I think they were shooting 150 grain bullets. Good luck.

haha, .270 not enough gun for mule deer? that's a good one.
What's the best caliber for mule deer? I'd have to say probably .270win. it's the classic long range deer cartridge.
Though nowadays if you don't use something like a 7mm rem mag or .300 win mag, it's like you're using a .22
If you shoot it well and like the gun, it would be my goto for a mule deer hunt. If you're looking to buy a new rifle anything from .25-06 to .338win mag I think is fair game, but I see little reason to deal with a heavy long barreled magnum rifle just to shoot a mule deer. Personally I'd want something lighter more manageable.
Tons of guys even use .243win on muleys, but so do alotta guys use .300 win mags.

your .270 is perfect. If you like it, than use it. I would guess that it is good for mule deer a lot farther than you are able to shoot
. It is a perfect mule deer rifle! Take it and good luck!

I really appreciate the info I had a feeling the .270 was OK but
started to doubt it. I am comfortable shooting it out to about 350 yds.
Here in Va you don"t get that many chances to shoot long range.
Thanks, hamkiller

ranges are hard to estimate out west as opposed to back east. the wide open expanses mess with your head somehow. make sure of your range. Your .270 would work on antelope out past 500 yards easily.

A .270 is a great gun. Load a 130 grain Nosler Accubond in it and enjoy. Barnes is putting out a new 110 grain MRX load at 3400 fps. Fast, Flat low recoil. Hard to beat a .270. I shoot a .257 Weatherby Magnum with a 100 grain ballistic tip. I own a 270 also. Both are great on big game.
