Moose hunt ?
I have a question. My soon to be wife wants to go on a hunting honeymoon. Since I think this is the best idea in the world I feel its only fair to take her somewhere she can try and get the game of her choice. She relly wants to take a moose. Is there anywhere in the states to hunt these big animals that don't use a lottery system for tags? Any help would be appreciated.

Alaska. Everyplace else in the U.S. is on a lottery draw basis. If you are looking for high success rates and not neccessarily a huge trophy try Newfoundland.

You're not allowed to stoke such jealousy by posting that kind of porn around here! Cheers to the luckiest guy I've ever heard of! FC |
RE: Moose hunt ?
New Brunswick offers a very good chance of being drawn. If you both apply, you have a decent chance of one of you being drawn.
Tons of moose. |
RE: Moose hunt ?
New Brunswick has better draw odds than any US State ( other than AK) ...
Still, odds are about 1 in 20 ... If you and your bride both apply it may still take several years to draw a tag... Northern Ontario has some outfitted unguided or semi guided hunts that are fairly easy draws for non residents, but I don't know the details... Quebec has some easy draws ( 2 people per tag), but success rates tend to be low... Newfoundland is your best for a meat moose..OTC tags and very high success rates, but generally smaller moose and smaller racks...Prices are quite reasonable also.. Alaska has huge moose and lots of OTC areas, BUT it tends to quite expensive...DIY hunts are possible for less $$ than a guided hunt, but include lots of logistics, lots of backbreaking work if you are successful, and generally fairly low success rates... Guided Alaska hunts have much higher success rates and you have a guide to do a lot of the bull work ( pun intended) but are quite pricey... |
