My Speer Reloading manual #14 shows the 180 gr. '06 maxing out at 2729 fps and the 308 is right behind it at 2613 fps, you know of what you speak.

Another thing to keep in mind is the 30-06 has been used to kill EVERY dangerous game on the planet at one time or another. It it'll do that then the 308 will certainly be more than adequate for black bear.

I wouldn't hesitate to hunt black bear with my 308win.I would load up some Barnes 168gr ttsx bullets,and go hunting.For a factory load,I would be using the Federal Premium 165gr tsx load.
