Does anybody know where I can find a Black Bear hunt behind dogs? Preferrably New Mexico or Colorado 2004. I have only found one and it was about $5,000. That' s way out of my price range. I MAY be able to trade a whitetail or turkey hunt on virgin land in OK but that is a big maybe. I would have to clear it with the owner. I don' t mind paying but 5 grand is too much for me. If I' m S.O.L then so be it but I am hoping someone out there can point me in a good direction. Thank you in advance.

Thanks Jorgy. Arkansas would work too if anybody knows of someone in that area. I will be moving to TX this summer so NM an AR are about the only places with a bear season that I would be able to get to. I plan on hunting AR for bear this fall but after hunting behind dogs for the first time this season ( I hunted hogs behind dogs for the first time this year. OH MY GOD!! What a rush!!) I really want to hunt bear with dogs.

I grew up in Wisconsin and a few of my dads friends bear hunted with dogs and we went along as spectators a few times and it was a kick in the pants for sure. Good luck finding your hunt!

A friend runs dogs off the baits we hunt the early archery season on. It' s Maine, but he shoots some real nice bears. Last year 575lb was his biggest. In the last 3 years I know he has taken several well over 400 with the largest in the state with a bow 2 years ago.
I " think" he charges $1200 with lodging for 5 days, if you need them. He has a small group from North Carolina who drive up with their own dogs each year who do amazing. Billy' s dogs are very good but these guys and their dogs are lunatics who train year round for this trip.
The name of the outfit is Twin Rivers Guide Service in Machias Maine. He doesn' t take a lot of guys, and runs it out of his garage. You stay in a friends lodge on a beautiful lake down the street, the sound of the loons in the morning is worth the trip alone.
If you were looking for real big bear at a reasonable price he would be tough to beat. His bait loop is over 60 miles long each day on paper land and he lives right in the middle of it all.

Have you thought about hunting in Maine? Your chances of shooting a bear behind hounds is as good as any other State and the cost of the trip is very reasonable. I am a Registered Master Maine Guide and we harvest some nice Bear every year with our Hounds. We charge $1400.00 for a 6 day hunt and it includes food, lodging, trophy care, travel within the state, airport pick up and over 19 years of experience with hounds and bait hunts!!
