I live on Vancouver Island,BC CAN which has a very big population of black bears.
And a 2 bear season, spring or fall. Having never hunted black bears, which season
would be best. Not really interested in the skin. Don' t have the money to do anything with the skin. I was told the spring bear was the best if only for the skin, Fall was best for meat.

The hair is longer in the spring but the bears are larger in the fall.I have heard mixed opinions but most people prefer to eat bears taken in the fall.In alberta it is law that you must take the hide and not let it go to waste so I don' t hunt bears unless I have a use for the hide.

Hunter40, The spring bear will definetely have a better hyde and longer nails haveing just come out of hibernation. The fall bears hyde will have raw spots from rubbing trees and fights from other bears, ect. I have eaten spring and fall bear and it still taste like, " bear" , I could not really tell the difference myself. Good Luck, Bobby
