My first elk!
 

I killed my first elk a couple of weeks ago in Colorado. It was a private land/fair chase guided hunt with Atkinson Expeditions. It goes without saying, I am tickled to death with my bull!!

I killed him at 117 yds using my Winchester Mod 70 Featherweight 30-06 and my 180 gr Nosler Accubond handload.

That is almost picture perfect of my first bull. Havn't shot one any bigger since. Good job and nice first. I would guess in the 270-280 for a score.

I went with Atkinson Expedition last year on a mule deer hunt. I had an awesome hunt, they have some huge bucks. Atkinson Expeditions is a top knotch operation! I would recommend them to anyone, anytime, anywhere. They do elk, mule deer, antelope, and whitetail hunts. Check there web site out.

Great bull! If it were me, I would never score him. There is no reason to compare him to anything. He is a trophy and a great memory!

Thank you all for the replies!! Yes, I am hooked and trying to figure out a way to get back out there!:)

As to the score....I didn't score him. I sort of wish I had but I'm thrilled with him. Needless to say, that is the biggest animal I've ever killed. He is at the taxidermist now and I'm doing a wall pedestal mount with him. Nose up, ears alert, left turn pose. Jonas Brothers in Louisville, CO, is doing the mounting for me.

By the way, the hunt was filmed for the TV show "Living The Wildlife", on The Pursuit Channel. It took us 3 days to finally take him. The show will probably air later this fall.
