It was a guided hunt with Winterhawk Outfitters and my first time ever Elk hunting. I'm from PA, grew up hunting White Tail, Turkey and Pheasant. We hunted the Flat Tops Wilderness area, public land part of White River National Forrest. Last hour of hunting on my first day out we were heading into an area for the last set up of the day. My guide bugled and this elk hammered back at about 100 yards. After 20 minutes of bugling back and forth the bull finally came into range. Hung up behind some trees at 30 yards, after holding at full draw for 2-1/2 or 3 minutes he turned around to leave and gave me a nice quartering away shot. Let one fly and he piled up 80 yards away. The whole experience was intense. Looking forward to next season already.
My guide did an awesome job and my hunting partner (Terry from Wis.)who I just met was very generous in giving me first shot. Spent the rest of the week withmy partnersvideo camera hoping to catch him on film but it didn't work out.
