RE: Colorado Elk
rdb, you are one lucky individual!! I just got back from my 2ndarchery huntwith Winterhawk. I had a difficult hunt, only got about 50yds from a bugling bull in thick timber, no shot. Heard some other bugles, but that was my only close encounter. The dam ranchers cows screwd up another opportunity on a bulging bull when they stampeded right towards the bull, and blew that hunt. My partner had a nice 6x6 within 40yds, but had no shot. I went before in 06'., and had a nice bull at 40yds, but he hung up below a knob. I only had his head & back. I hunted hard both times out all 6 days, so thats why I say you are one lucky dude!!

RE: Colorado Elk
Congrats. To keep it all in perspective, remember that only about 15% of bow hunters are successful on elk in CO. And a good part of that is on cows.
Nothing like being out in the CO. high country this time of yearand hearing bugling elk!! |
RE: Colorado Elk
Nice feeling when you get your elk!

RE: Colorado Elk
Nice bull man. I'm considering a guided hunt one of these years. I've been DIY elk hunting with a bow for several years without success. I've killed elk with a rifle but don't find it much of a challenge and really don't like the knuckleheadsand density of hunters during rifle season.. bow hunting is a lot more fun and archery is a great hobby.. just hard as hell to kill elk at least the DIY variety.
