Moose bullet choice???
I was wondering if any of you with experience can help me out. A friend of mine got a moose permit in Vermont. He is taking his bolt action Rem 30-06. The question is should he stick withthe 180 grain lead or move up to 220 grain? or does it really matter? A shot in the woods most of the time will not go beyond 100 yards.

.30-06 & 180gr is plenty!:) |
RE: Moose bullet choice???
do you mean 180gr "load" or "lead"? Just curious.

RE: Moose bullet choice???
i should have just left it as 180 grain or 220 grain?

RE: Moose bullet choice???
From the 06, a premium construction 180 gr bullet will do nicely, it sure wouldn't hurt to move up to 200 gr though.

RE: Moose bullet choice???
I have used 180gr Winchester Failsafes, and Winchester XP3's (practically the same bullet). They both worked very well.

RE: Moose bullet choice???
I'd stick with the 180gr over the 220gr for factory loads.
If you handload, then a 200gr would be awesome. Though I don't think it's needed but know many '06 handloaders love the 200gr. |
RE: Moose bullet choice???
I prefer the 180 over the 220 for moose. But I many times use the 220 whenI might have a nasty encounter with mr griz. Either will work fine.
