E WA muzzleloader elk
#2

You live in Eastern WA.. you've never hunted elk there? You're closest to the Yakima herd but of course have the Blue's and Spokane area. I've hunted the Yakima herd for years southwest of Ellensburg.. but only with rifle and bow. They will be very scattered during muzzleloader just like during bow and even rifle. Pick and area, scout it and hunt hard is the only advice I can give because Elk don't give up the game easily!

I have hunted elk but almost all the areas I have hunted elk are not open for muzzleloader. I decided I was not going to rifle hunt after having a bullet hit the ground 20 feet from me last year. I have to learn new areas this year. I am just looking to put meat in the freezer this year. Not trophy hunting.

I think all the Yakima districts are open to Muzzy's aren't they? I honestly am not that up on muzzy regs..Page 40 of the regs http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/hunter/huntregs2008.pdf
WA has some of the most over regulated hunting I've ever witnessed especially for elk. The whole east side west side restriction plus spike bull only units.

Actually those are pheasants in that picture. As far as ducks, I don't hunt the potholes very much any more. Too many people. Let the "out of towners" fight over spots out there. I have a few other honey holes that I have found. That is the advantage to living here. When you are thinking about coming over let me know.
