RE: DIY Elk Hunt
The particular area I hunt- i saw two bulls bugling about 100 yards down from the side of the ridge, working towards the black timber. The problem was, I couldn't get there fast enough for a shot (even while getting up at 3 am).
That's why I was thinking camping on top of the ridge, but about .5 miles away from that hotspot. The problem with idaho is that the tops of the ridges aren't very wide and I wouldn't want to spook a bull while at camp....(scent, etc.) |

Dont camp above them, thermals fall at night. If you were to use a bivy bag and a noahs tarp, you would only need a flat spot big enough for your sleeping bag. Thats the beauty of bivy hunting....
