Since he already uses 150grs.....that would be ideal for elk in a .270, so getting a different 150gr .270 bullet he likes shouldn't be hard, but I agree probably not the boat tail soft points, I'd want more of a premium controlled expansion type bullet for deeper penetration. If you were using a .338 on elk, I think a 250gr softpoint wouldn't be as much an issue, but in .270, I'd def say go controlled expansion premium type of bullet

Put the bullet behind the shoulder into the heart lungs and he should have no problem.
