help with caribou hunt

Ok guys my cousin and I are planning a caribou hunt for 2009 but we don’t know whether to go to Alaska or Canada or what outfitters we should use this will be our first trip of this kind and were doing it with our bows we have looked at a lot of outfitters on line they all pretty much say the same thing as far as pricing goes but I was wandering if any of you have done a hunt like this and if so where did you go how was it

cari2, My friends went 2 years ago, that was before the sickness was wide spread. I did hear that this past year was bad all over Quebec. Also they booked direct no booking agent. Price increase due to rise of daily life, fuel, food, etc. Every outfitter runs big numbers of hunters, at the time Safri offered a return free hunt if a legal bull was not harvested.

Hey there cari2. I am considering a caribou trip soon. While I did go to Alaska before I would choose Canada. I think prices are getting out of hand everywhere. I am an outfitter here in Wyoming and I think my prices are too high. That's another story. Any way I would like to get some more information from you about your hunts. Could you send some particulars to [email protected] I have some fantastic hunting for mule deer and antelope if you might be interested in a trade. You can check out my site at http://www.antelopeoutfitters.com/

Well they have different sub species....I think alaska only has 1 variety......but i agree I'd go canada, I think some caribou hunting in alaska can be very tough! not that canada is much easier, but I do thik more chances....

I saw a late season rut hunt with helicopters on .....jim shockey's show, it was awesome, expensive though! but tons of huge bulls.

I think its the central barren ground that have the largest antlers......thats where I'd probably start.....pick the sub species you want I say and figure out wher eto go for that variety.

Try Woodland Caribou in Newfoundland. Huge blocky bodies and nice antlers with mass. It is a great hunt mostly spot and stalk with guides. I used Snowshoe Lake Hunting and Fishing out of Millertown NL. First rate people and a comfortable camp. Decent prices when I went last time 3 years ago.
