Prefer the October season,we shot one in Sept a couple years ago and it was so warm that we had to race to the processors to get the hide off and get the meat in the cooler.Guys are carrying frozen milk jugs of water for stuffing the body cavity. They are just starting into rut and harder to call. When ours dropped we were swarmed by black flies and flies and my son had to keep knocking them off while I did the up to your elbows task of field dressing.I told the state in their questionare that it was a tough go hunting that early and saw one large bull already spoiled when they got him to the processor.October is the prime time if you get drawn, but I'll take September over nothing at all.

I hunted in WMD 11 one of the worst for success rate.Used to have a camp up there and know the area well.Check my post below about 2002 hunter sucess rates in all WMD's if you are looking for a good one for moose density. The clear cuts from the spruce budworm infestations are growing up now and moose are a lot harder to see driving the woods roads.Calling is the preferred method to connect these days.Good Hunting!
