Hunter 5325, You are correct, there are many opportunities to hunt out west for much less. I could have purchased an over the counter Elk tag for $501 and hunted elk for a fraction of the price. However, the Mule Deer tags for this area take an average of 7 years to draw. I didn't want to wait 7 years. I was hunting a combination of private land, BLM, and Federal Land. I was also supporting the Rocky Mountain Elk foundation through the hunt. In the end, I had a great time and saw more game than I ever expected. Of course I would have liked to catch the 4x4 (first photo) on the land I had permission to hunt. When I took the photo, I was standing next to a fence that ended the property I had permission to hunt and the deer had just crossed onto private propety.

Great pics!

Looks like the 4x4 you were hunting most of the week (if I understood your post correctly) is a 2 1/2 year old buck. Did you see any older age class bucks on this hunt? Curious, since you paid for it and all....

I did - I saw 8 bucks through the spotting scope - some 5x4's and a 6x5. All over a mile away on a private farm eating alfalfa. They had no intension of movign to higher ground. At least not while I was watching them.

Hey all your easterners.. don't look at those pics you'll want to move out west, we've got enough people out west already! [8D]

Truthfully though, those scenes are why I moved out west 25 yrs ago.. Unless somebody told you, they could have been takenany place fromthe rocky mountain front and west.. great country but it can be hard to make a living.

Pretty cool, nice pics. Looks like San Luis valley. Some of the deer look like sheep and antelope too. Glad you had a good time.
