Bear hunt??
I am looking to go on my first bear hunt. I live in Tx and obviously cant do any bear hunting here. I am not picky as to where I go so I am just looking for some recommendations on outfitters that you may have used and were happy with. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Bear hunt??
You can go bear hunting in Maine. It is where I go. Check here for a list of outfitters:
http://www.gameandfishnetwork.com/Outfitters/r=Northeast.html Alaska is always a good choice as well. |
RE: Bear hunt??
We've got some nice spots up in Northern Ontario too. There's one place in Greenstone that would be perfect in the off chance you'd like to bring your wife (that way you dont have to put it on hold). It's got cosy clean cabins and a hot tub and sauna to relax in after walking all day. colimarlodge.com

You can go to my website and go to the "Links" section. In there is a gentleman by the name of Bob Johnson. He hunts out here in CA. and we have some very nice bears out here that we hunt with hounds. If you have never expirenced that type of hunt,it is to say the least, AWESOME. I have had guys book a lot of hunts with him and they have all been very happy. They can be done with a bow, rifle, or handgun. 4 day hunts for $1500.00 and I haven't had one client go for longer than 2 days. We can take care of the hide for you and ship it back to TX. or you can take it back with you if you have the time to let it freeze. He also does bobcat hunts. His phone number is on my website.

RE: Bear hunt??
there are some big bear up here in alberta and saskatchewan.I hunt in sask with a buddy,I had some nice bears hit my bait this spring.
|
RE: Bear hunt??
I hunted this past spring with All Terrain Bear Hunts, www.atbh.ca
Corey is a first class outfitter and his area is known for its very large bears. If you can do the outpost camp, by all means do it. We stayed in town and after tagging out the first night I went out to the camp for a day of fishing and itwas spectacular. Good Hunting, Bowflex |
RE: Bear hunt??
Georgia has some monster bucks too look at some of the picture from our hunts.
http://us-flea.com/hunt/ Most of the stuff there is junk but, they do give away free hunts every now and then. |
RE: Bear hunt??
i hunt bears in sask (thats where i live) and manitoba... and if i were to be looking into a guided hunt i would be going to manitoba...very big stuff and very little pressure...
saskatchewan still has big bears but not to the numbers previously enjoyed...just my 2cents |
RE: Bear hunt??

RE: Bear hunt??
Hey GNO, any "real" discussions on bringing back the spring bear hunt?
|
RE: Bear hunt??
There are a lot of good places to go, if i was to spend some$$ I would pick manitoba for the 2 bear option and color phase odds.
|
RE: Bear hunt??
I don't believe that the spring hunt will ever come back. No serious talks that I am aware of.

RE: Bear hunt??
ORIGINAL: GNO I don't believe that the spring hunt will ever come back. No serious talks that I am aware of. thats too bad...from the people that i know around the kenora, dryden and thunder bay areas all tell me that the no.s of black bears are exploding... i know there have been more bears ive seen while musky fishing out there... |
RE: Bear hunt??
The bear population has exploded since the cancellation of the spring hunt. It would be nice to get it back, but not holding my breath. The hunting has been excellent for bears in recent years, it should just keep getting better and better.

RE: Bear hunt??
Hi CynikalHC,
I might as well throw my 2 cents in. There are many ways to kill a Bear..but I consider that spot & stalk is by far the most exciting and most productive. I take 30 Bear hunter per year in our BC hunting operation. Between my 3 guides we see 100-125 Bears in 5 days of hunting. Multiple stalks are common.1 in 7 Colour phase, with good opportunity on Trophies. We aren't the only one , there are many good operations in B.c. We have no baiting in BC. That is by choice.Hounds are legal also...Guides that are members of the G.O.A.B.C. bound by strict Ethics and standards . These are the same type of hunts that you see on Jim Shockeys program but there are many more affordable.www.bcguideoutfitters.com we have a contest right now for a free Bear hunt. check it out. |
RE: Bear hunt??
In the last 3 years I have met some great people from TX on my Quebec bear Hunts. I am a very picky person when it come to spending alot of money on Guided hunts. I assure you that the outfitter I have will send you home with a bear if you want to make the drive. Michel Guy in Quebec Canada..I will be returning for my 4 th year with him on May 27th. My home is filled with Beautiful Bear mounts and rugs killed with Bow and Gun. Email me or private message me at [email protected] for more info or visit www.guyhunting.com and call Michel and tell him Brian Welch has sent you. You can even hunt with me if you would like...We have an opening...$1595. Take Care!

RE: Bear hunt??
Canada certanly has excellent Bear hunts..I firmly believe that you get what you pay for....Once in a while there may be a bargin..but Outfitters know their product.Jim Shockey gets the most of anyone for a Black Bear hunt. He gets $9000. for a spot & stalk BC Island Bear hunt. His Sask. area gets only around $2500.You can't compare the two. Many people start with a baited Bear hunt because of price .But once they come on a spot & stalk BC hunt, they usally never go back...It cost alot more but there is more value....You are fully guided, seeing hundreds of square miles. We see 100 to 125 bears per 5 day hunt between the crew....Its not for everyone.....but wow is it exciting !
We are having a contest for a free Spot & Stalk BC Bear Hunt...www.mckayoutfitters.com Good Luck. |
RE: Bear hunt??
Baited hunt or spot & stalk? Both great options, but it would be hard to choose which one is better. First thing is consider your abilities physically, are you walking, riding horses, or riding around in trucks trying to spot bears, and do you like sitting in a treestand. What is there to do after you are successful? If you decide on some of these things first, it helps pick which hunt is best for you. Baited hunts are just as ethical as spot & stalk hunts. Our hunters last season averaged4 - 12 different bears per bait each day of their hunt and most guys opt to hunt evening only and fish the morning and early afternoon. You can't really compare a BC Island bear hunt with any other black bear hunt out there.

RE: Bear hunt??
Actually, we here in BC joke about the the Island Bear clasification...on average they don't kill any larger Bears than on the mainland. They simply focus on their Bear Hunts. That is what they have to make a living on.Mainland Outfitters have Moose, Elk , Deer ,Sheep, and Goats....these are the main stay of BC Outfitters.Inland Bears have much better coats , living for 6 mounths underground. They also have colour phase Bears...lsland Bearare fatter because of Salmon and the longer season they are out. Some don't even hibernate. It is general concenses in BC that BC Bears are the same...except for marketing...Hats off to those get more money for the same product

RE: Bear hunt??
I went to Camp Quetico this year up in Ontario.. I didn't see one bear.. lol
BUT, it's a nice place and most of the crew did kill bears.. It rained for all ten days and I think that may have hurt us a little. They give you trucks and you drop the other guys off and pick them up on the way back through, we took turns driving.. Well I did hear a bear though, after it charged me while standing on the dirt road waiting for the truck.. After that happened it was the longest 45min. of my life, with only a bow in my hand.. Must have been a bluff charge cuz I only heard him and never seen him. But they have a website if you want to read about it, don't let my bad luck scare you.. lol |
RE: Bear hunt??
Weitas Creek Outfitters in Idaho. went there last year and saw 17 different bears over 6 full days of hunting. 5 of the 17 were cubs, but hey, got some good video of them. also, they are in a 2 bear area. cost is reasonable I think. you can check them out at www.idahooutfitters.com. food was very good, guides were friendly, weather was great. have no complaints about them at all. going back this spring and taking the g/f and her boy. she's going to be filming and taking pictures. he's hunting.

RE: Bear hunt??
Not bragging..but in 5 days of hunting our crew of 3 guides see between 100-125 Bears...all spot & stalk...BC Bear Hunts !!!!
Bear Masters of BC ! |
RE: Bear hunt??
bcguide, very impressive numbers. but not into the spot and stalk. like to sit and watch myself. plus, have a feeling they have way more bears up there than in idaho. not knocking your ways at all. may come to canada to hunt bears some day. but for the money, will stay here for now. until at least '09 when I have to book another hunt.

RE: Bear hunt??
Give Antlerhill Outfitters a ring- # 403 227 2709 and talk to jason . Easy guy to get along with and he has a awsome fly-in bear camp in northern Alberta. Good camp, awsome food , lots of bears - and you can take two if you want. Very well set up for first time hunters and really good guys. Just a great hunt with loads of memories.
