Default Northern New Mexico Elk Unit?

I'm talking to a guy that has a Unit Wide Landowner Mature Bull Elk Tag(rifle) in New Mexico, Unit 5b. Does anyone know anything about this area? He'll sell me the tag for around $700 (doesnt include the $541 license, I'm aware of that) and I would be going Oct 27th - 31st. Haven't really gotten to talk to him much and I'm unsure what the "Unit Wide" terminology means. Does that mean I can hunt National Forest? Private area? State land? Indian Reservation?

I have to give him an answer within the next 2 days, so any info anyone has would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks a lot guys!

Dustin

I suspect a Uint wide tags means you could hunt any area with in that unit's boundry.
But you will need permission to hunt anything that is not public lands. i.e. private land and indian lands.
But any Forest Service or State lands should be open to you.
