If ya take a broadside shot and shoot behind the shoulder, aiming to exit behind the off shoulder, you won't ruin any more meat than if you'd used your .243.
Agreed Howler cant add anything to that, other than I use a 7MM Mag like described and it works well

I remember someone had only a .338 Win Magsince his other rifle was in the shop, and he used a .338 Win Mag on antelope, and it worked fine.

Stick with the 300....I know a guy that shoots them with a .338...goes staright thruy them with little damage....moving too fast.....but you also must make a good shot.

.300 Win Mag (I am assuming this is the 300 mag your talking about) is an excellent antelope round. I would always take the .300 over the .243 for this type of hunting unless you shoot your antelope at pretty close range. Out here in Idaho, most antelope kills are a few hundred yards out. The .243 starts to drop off pretty fast out past 300 yards. I would concur with the previous advice concerning using 180 grain slugs over 150 grain slugs. They carry the energy further, and if you just happen to get a shorter range shot, they will definately not be moving along as fast as the 150's.

You can go hunting, butyou can expect to stuff that antelope in a 5 gallon bucket if you shoot it at less than 300 yds.!

I used the 300Win Mag for several years and after trying just about all the bullet weights, the 180 just worked better for all around hunting. I also loaded the 190 grain Hornady BTSPInterlock with good results. Many people overlook the 190 grain offerings.

That's true no matter the caliber used. Just simply not much meat on them!

I would use a heavy bonded bullet. Stay away from the 150 gr. Ballistic tips that would be nasty.

Lol my buddy and i shoot a 30-378 weatherby mag. He went on an antelope hunt last year and shot his goat at 60 yards. It literally blew the hair off the cape at least 6 inches around the exit hole.
