This bear was about 10'5", and was dispatched rather easily with a .338 Win Mag, requiring only 2 shots to be killed, and 4 more for good measure.

BS story or not that is one big bear! I think If I was to stumble across it. I would be the first man in historyto die ofcomplete lost of bowels.... Hope he enjoyed his dinner.

Make sure you read the "real story" after the urban legend. Note Ted Winnen was an airman stationed at Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks, AK. (More proof military personnel make better hunters!)

It's a pretty intense description of the events leading up to and his actual shooting of the monster. 10 yards is WAY too close to get to this fella. I've thought about that if you only have a highpower with that has a scope on, would it even be useful trying to site the bear through the scope, if it was coming toward you? Or would you do your best to site along the side of the barrel. Neither is ideal by any means at this close.
