What would you chose?
Lets say you have won a trophy hunting adventure of a lifetime sponsored by a wellknownrifle and scope manufacturers. Your hunting experience will includewild pig in Texas, whitetail in Kansas, elk in New Mexico, Bear in Maineand antelope in Wyoming. You will be supplied with one rifle and your choice of scope by the manufacturers, mounted andready to go. They will supply the correct bullet for each hunting experience and time to sight that round in beforeeach hunt. Yardages will be from as close as 20 yards to extended rages out to 300 yards. The rifle and scope combination that you chose must serve you well for all hunts. What caliber and what fixed or variable scope would you chose? One caliber - one scope

Golly, That's easy.........
Got it right in my gun safe...
Win M70 in .280 with a Leupold 2x7....
Of course a LOT of other combos would do as well, but I'm not sure there there are many that would do the job a whole lot BETTER...
If you had extended the range to 400 yards, my answer might have been different considering the bigger critters, altho the .280 can get it done at 400 also...

Sniper,
I live in Kansas so I take some nice whitetail, have taken bear in Colo., New Mexico, Utah, Oregon ,Calif and New Brunswick, took wild boar on buddies ranch in Texas, Elk in Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado. Antelope in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. Alll with the same gun, scope and same bullet. This setup works for me I have hunted with other guns and scope but for me this is my two cents worth.
Ruger M77 Mark II with Leupold 3 x 9 Series II and 180 grain bullets for everything. Bullet is a bit much and slow for Antelope but great for everthing else. Never had a problem with this setup. Plus when I travel after one shot I know if the scope is off.

My win featherwight mod 70 in 30/06, 180 grain corelocks.
Has taken black bear, elk, moose, mule deer, caribou, dall sheep, stone sheep, wolf.
Never shot a pig, though I doubt it would be a problem.
