the "cult" of hunting with a .50 cal rifle. I read it last night and have some mixed thoughts on it. It was also about a couple, husband and wife that hunt with .50s together @ ranges over a 1,000 yards. Anyone else read it and have any opinions of it? I did think that it was kind ofinteresting
when the husband recalled having his right eyebrow torn off due to the recoil of one shot, having it hanging over his right eye and bleeding, missing the first shot that did the damage, shooting again...missing and again wacking his destroyed eyebrow and then finally taking an elk with another shot.

I read that article, it was different and informative. I'm not sure that type of hunting is for me, but I do have to give those guys and gals credit, it takes a lot of skill to accurately do what they do.
On another note, I would love to shoot one of those big guns, just to see what it was like.

I wonder if there's a cheap slightly used .50 cal somewhere?
I think if a gun just got through cutting up my face I would either not shoot it again . . . or at least get my freakin' face away from it!!
Seriously, .50 cal for elk. Rediculous. And at what range? up to 1000 yards. Get out and hunt the damn thing.

.50 cal can go through over 1/4" of steel or concrete blockwallsand still kill. I don't have any idea why you'd want to use something that powerful for hunting big game, at least not in N. America.
I have 1 word for it for hunting Elk... "Overkill"!
