Default Choice of elk cal.

From 1 to 25 with 1 being the most important, were do you rank the choice of cal.
Please list if you've ever hunted elk, I would like to see you that havn't give your input.
If you have.
With or with out a guide.
Didyou harvest an elk.
If cal is not #1 what is.
Please hold other comments till later.
Thanks Larry

There are many calibers that can do the job .30-06, etc. more important is choice of bullet.

I would have to say 10. #1 for me is being educated on the elk movements and where they are going to be.
I have harvested a few elk
With and without a guide. (I was a guide so does that count as a guideed hunt for myself.)

I have harvested 2 elk both without a guide and i would have to say my #1 would have to be "Know the elk" for example if you see a herd, what would be the best approach direct or indirect approach, if they are in an area where they would be hard to shot if one guy jumps them out of there where will they go so you can set an ambush. Where will they be if it's hot, cold, windy. I think the caliber would have to be my #7 about.

All the elk I have killedhave beenwith out the aid of a guide. I think the most important asset is to be able to shootone's firearm very very well, and having confidence inyour rig.

I think caliber is very important; .270 is the minimum with a 150 gr.very well constructedbullet.

Good luck.
