hahah altitude, yea being at about 8-12' above sea level and going to the 7000-12000 ft will take some getting use to. Ive been that high before but i was in a pressurized cabin =)
You have that right SHo. I live at 118' ASL and tried to get in shape in preparation for the hunt. We hunted from 7500 to about 10,500 and I could feel it big time. Everything you do has to be slow.

Sleepy Cat Mtn. area in White river Nat. Forest! We used to go every other year until my back went out. 8 of us and we did see lots of game and took some very good 5x5's on up. Some were over 300 score. Tip fer you, hunt on the North side of ridges. Elk like it cool to downright cold, they have heavy winter coats, they feed in parks at nite and bed up in black hole timber. Over a 10 year period we took over 40 Bulls all legal or bigger.

DIY is a great way to go. Colo has lots of OTC tags and many draw tags too. Here's a link for elk hunting info, I assume you know what one looks like:

...and good luck.
