I've personally witnessedwell over a dozenelk being harvested. The single most devastating kill I've ever seen was on a 5pt bull at 275 yards...the damage being done by a .277 cal 150gr Nosler Partition.

The .270 Win is plenty for elk. Maybe not my choice for an "elk only" rifle, but plenty, all the same.

Both on the same day with Ruger M77 .270 w/150gr NP (1994)

.270 has killed alot of elk. Stay within the limits of the caliber and load you are using. Any particular reason your leaning toward it over a .30 caliber?

For me the 270win is an all around good elk caliber. But why slow the 270 using 150gr bullets. You might as well bump up to a 30-06 class of bullet weights. 130gr and 140 gr bullets retain the speed you want for longer range shooting and more speed means more actual ft lbs. of energy at longer distances. Close shots an elk won't even know the difference between a 150 and 130gr bullet. But speed is what gives the advantage to a 270 over a 30-06 at long ranges. But if heavy bullets and close shots is more to your liking the 30-06 is the way to go.
