.338 for antelope
#11
I just got home from my antelope hunt in SE Wyoming and it was GREAT! I had a blast. The guides were a realbunch of nice guys that knew what they were doing and put you on game. It was also my first hunt out West and I love the landscape out there.I also used my 338 Win. and put it on the front shoulder with aslightquartering forward shot and the damage wasn't to bad with partitions. It exitedbehind the last rib in the opposite side. Here is the pics. Thanks to all thet helped me with this post.

But, but, but.... you can't use a cartridge that large on antelope!
It's, it's, it's, un-American.... you, you, you could get your shoulder hurt!
It, it, it's okay to go to small, but you can't go hunting game with that kind of power,
It, it just ain't right. I can't give you any good reasons why. It just ain't.

Nice antelope. Glad it worked well for you. As predicted.

I think the 338 with 200 grain bullets would work quite well and there shoudn't be a lot of meat damage.. I shot one with a 30-40 Krag once shooting the old 220 grain bullets.

I got back on sunday from WY and my .257 Bob.did a fine job! .338 would have worked good too but I shor her in the neck and it would not have been a pretty picture.
