One of the best made. You'll have no trouble with a 180 grain partition out of a 300 mag.

300 WSM? Perfect! 180 Partition and aim right for the shoulder, seriously.

The 300 Win Mag & 180 grain partitions = Elk hunting. Keep your knife sharp. CB

I know you said 300WSM but it's the same as the 300 Win Mag with 180 grain factory loads.

Agree with all above as well.. Partitions and AccuBonds are the only thing flying through all my barrels!

Partitions,accubonds,failsafes,tsx,a-frame or bearclaws will all work fine in weights of 165gr or more.

Unless you have a perfect broadside shot and break both shoulders, the elk will not drop any faster than with a lung shot.Breaking one shoulder only results in more damaged meat.

Ditto what Stubblejumper said. Unless you break both shoulders a mature elk will still run for a short distance.

Unless it's the only shot presented I never purposly aim for the shoulder on an elk, or anything else for that matter. I always aim to hit right behind the shoulder and get a good double lung shot and usually a complete pass thru. Besides that, A double lung shot elk will generally run down hill and that is good where I hunt. Even if it's only 40 or 50 yards.

Having said that a 180 grain Nosler partition is a bullet that is certainly capeable of breaking both shoulders should you hit both of them. Your friend doesn't sound like he has a clue.
