Default To SHOOT or NOT to Shoot???...

Opening day of rifle, rollin' solo, you stumble up 3 hours in the dark over deadfalls, through towering alders and finally make it to the timberline ridge just as legal light breaks...(every day should start like this...YEAAAH!!) You glass the first basin and spot a couple of smaller bucks at 100 yards...but you know some big bucks cruise this timber...you decide to peak over the back of the ridge and you spot a MONSTER black BRUIN stuffin' his mug in a huge berry patch ...you just happen to have a tag in your pack with his name on it...

Problem is he's pushin' 400 lbs and is in the nastiest-ball breakin'-hole you could imagine...at the bottome of a steep, shale avalanche chute...it'd take all day to get him back to where you're standin' and then most of the night to get back to the truck... To HUMP or NOT to hump...that is the question???...
Here's the hole...

The front basin...a slice o' redneck PARADISE...

I'd rather be out there...Mt^Boy

I say "Let's Go !!" I hunt hard, maybe to hard-- lost a couple of hunting buddies because of it.

Definitely a rug! I did it once and it took a ton of hiking in and out with pack frames and the hide was so heavy I could hardly walk. Big bears in steep holes are a killer but how can you pass the chance. It's worth it.

Haha, right on!.. there's some hard core hunters out there...nice change from all of the ATV slobs I see around...

Anyways, I got some good video of him and let him live another year...looking for big bucks...I saw a few more blacks, but none as big as him. No one shot the big guy (yet) so I'll be back looking in that hole next year...My freezer is still full of bear pepperoni from this spring...that stuff if GOLD!

I also video'd a big cougar that day while having lunch. I didn't fire a bullet, but it was one of the best days this year out in the mountains!!

I'd rather be out there!>>>

They don't get big by giving you the parade wave as you drive into camp. They are off in some hole where the out-of-shape city wannabe's don't want to go. I don't think the question should be to shoot or not to shoot? It should be big one or little one? If you want the big one quit asking questions and go get him.

Take the shot, once you get the bear, you've got nothing but time left to worry about.

Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!
