Do it all calibers/ all around gun etc.

I posted this as a response to another post, but it was so good I thought it needed its on thread.

I don't for the life of me understand these "one caliber for everything" questions. Its quite frankly getting annoying. There isn't one "magic" caliber that is perfect for everything. Besides if My wife hears any of this I will be in big trouble.:D

Here's what you NEED:
1. 223 for varmints
2. 22-250 for long range varmints
3. 22 hornet for close range varmints
4. 218 bee for close range varmints when you run out of 22 hornetammo
5. 221 firebal for varmints (you can shoot all day without barrel heat)
6. 20 vartarg for varmints (because I want one)
7. 25-06 for antelope

12. 338 win mag for elk and scary stuff
13. 375 for anything scarier than the 338
14. 416 for anything scarier than the 375
15. Belgium Browning A5 sweet sixteen....nuff said
16. Quality over and under 12 gauge. for pheasants, clay targets etc.
17. 22 lr if you need a reason, It won't do me any good to explain.
18. A pre 64 Model 70 in the caliber of your choice
19. A cooper rifle in the caliber of your choice
20. A Kimber rifle in the caliber of your choice
21. A 45 ACP 1911 style pistol, for protection and uspsa shoots
22. A Glock because tommy lee jones used one in "US Marshals"
23. A H&K of some order. To appreciate German engineering.
24. A wildcat cartridge of some kind. Just to say you have one.
25. A Winchester 73 lever gun. It won the west, dang it.
26. A benchrest quality rifle either 6 PPC, 6 BR, 22 ppc, 20 VT etc. to make little groups
27. On of Ackley's "improved" cartridges. He's a legend, dang it.
28. A Weatherby.....to appreciate your other rifles....[8D]
29. An EnglishDouble Rifle....Because anything that costs that much has to be good!
30. A first generation Colt.
31. A HMR .17 for general whistle pig killen
I'm sure there are more but I'm getting an ache in my wallet.

The bottom bbl is chambered for 8x57jrs, and i hand load 200 grain Nosler partitions for it at 2,350mv. It really does a great job and i'm very happy with it's performance!

I bought this Krieghoff drilling from the guy who took it out of a castle in WW2 when he was doing a "sweep" looking for german soldiers who were hideing from our invadeing army. It looked like junk when i got it over 20 years ago, with dents in the shot bbls, broken stock, missing scope and mount ect... I did some of the work and had other master gunsmithsto the rest of the work to rebuild it to better than new condition.

You can buy a drilling from Krieghoff or from another drilling maker and have one too.

You don't have to spend that many dollars, i looked a 5 different drillings a few days ago, and all were around 5K ea.. And there's better deals than that around too... The big difference in drillings is how "oranate" they are, lots of engraveing ect. = big dollars!!

Yes, still a lot of $$, but still not as bad as haveing 8 or 10 average every day rifles that you can only shoot one at a time anyway...

Be aware of what your buying, there's some junk out there!!

No, as I "grow up" I figure out more and more thats its quantities of quality that I desire.

Guys, I used to like having a lot of guns when i was little too, but i was about 10 years old. Some of u r acting like ur 2 years old. Besides, what would u do with all those guns anyways. My friend told me like a few weeks ago that a kid went with his dads fifty some guns and played "war" at their hunting cabin. That kid soon later shot this girls family and took the girl, this was supposedly in PA. Would u really use all those guns for hunting anyways?
Just get something fairly priced and shoot your trophies. A .22 hornet works fine for almost all small game. And just buy a .30-06 for the deer, moose, etc. and a 12 gauge would work well for a lot more things too.

260rem 01-18-2006 04:51 PM

RE: Do it all calibers/ all around gun etc.

I used to have between 15-20 guns and now I have cut it down to just 4
2 X 12ga SxS Shotguns (one is a family heirloom)
1 260rem for all my small and medium game
1 375H&H for all the big stuff (on the way)

I find at the least I spend a lot less time cleaning them now and I find the more you get used to an outfit the better you shoot with it I know my guns inside and out and find that I shoot the better for it.
But it’s all just a matter of personal taste if you want to collect them then all the more power to you.

You sound very close to a gun control advocate to me. Your logic is totally flawed. Just because I collect guns does not mean that I will suddenly go on a killing spree. Conversly, just because you own only a fewguns does not preclude you from losing you mind and killing someone.

If a want to collect fine weaponsas my hobby, I have the right. Some people collect vintage cars. Some play golf. some paint their faces and go to NFL Games. Truth be told I probably only hunt with a handfull of my rifles but I like having them all. Who are you to judge me. I believe that there is nothing as immature as name calling, so live and let live.

I am like shato more guns the better, going back to the drilling's my buddy has a Sauer 12 ga double with a 30/06 under it has the 22 insert for one of the 12 gauge barrels. I don't think he had to give an arm and leg for it. but not cheap.

My addition to the list would be the old and newly introduced 6.5 mm Rem. mag. one of those just have to have for me.

Colorada,
That is the most absured thing I have herd in a long time,we can't control everyones actions.Just cause that kid had a flaw in his brain activity dosen't mean everyone dose.

I collect, trade, buy, sell, horde guns,do I hunt with everyone of them I try.I buy for my kidds,my wife,my freinds, family.I have had hundreds of guns through the safe door.It dose not make me a mass murder, stalker, killer or what ever pepole depict of a gun owner.
I hope my kidds are as passionate about guns and huntingas I'am,and I hope I'am as good of a father to teach them all right and wrong and hope to god they have a consince(sp) to know right from wrong.

Now Shato I agree with your list to apoint, but you need to add the 25-06,220 swift,416 rem mag,458 lott and the 340 wby.Why just cause everyone should own one at one point in thier lives.

That's the thing about "fine" guns, they don't have to weigh a TON, or be unbalanced just because it has more than one bbl...

The drilling in the picture weighs 7 pounds, and is NOT bbl heavy. And, it was real enough to put this 8 point in my freezer this last fall, and a heck of a lot more of them before that one...

BTW, hey Colorado, are you for real???? OR, did you just dream up something soSTUPID to get guys going on this site????
