My buddy shot a 150 class whitetail on a hunt with the 150 grain Barnes lauched from a 300 RUM. The deer spun in a circle and dropped. It had an 1.5" exit wound and the bullet did not damage much meat. I would say it is a good round for whitetails at high velocities because they go down fast but the bullet does not seem to cause the extensive meat damage that the rapid expansion bullets do.

Skeeter what do you estimate that moose weights.

Scott Thanks. So your buddy shot the deer behind the front shoulders? The reason I ask is your statement of meat damage...I really don't consider lost intercostal rib meat a big deal.

The total animal FD weight wasslightlyover 700lbs(meaning head, legs, hide and guts removed).1000lb rangeon the hoof would be my estimate.

Yes it was a perfect behind the shouldershot andthe internals were liquid around the wound path. I am sure a shoulder shot thru bone would mean massive damage with any bullet as the 4,000 lbs ke has to go somewhere.

My buddy was at a hunting ranch when he shot the 150 class whitetail, but last year heshot another smaller buck in pretty much the same location with a 150 Grain Swift Scirroco and the bullet "blew up" with massive damage and no exit. He was big Scirroco fan until that bullet failed, and now when he uses the 300 UM he stays away from lighter lead core bullets all together.
