RE: Barnes X bullet or win failsafes for elk?
stubblejumper, congrats on your bull and thanks for the update.
I managed to recover a TSX from a bull moose from last week, the weight retention was right around 90% as well. The shot was a quarter away at approx 75 yards the bullet entered the ribs, damaging both lungs and severely hemoraging the heart while busting through the opposing shoulder and came to rest in the hide on the opposite side. My load is 140gr TSX MV is 3150fps. The recovered bullet lost a pedal in the hide on the opposite side but given the circumstances of the shot, size of animal and distance it travelled I am surely impressed with this bullet for the larger game. What I like is even when contacting the heavy bone the meat damage was very small. I ama bitworried if such a bullet will prove to strong for whitetails on a rib shot only! Any experiences would be appreciated? I would like to just stick with this load as it shoots very well! I have a coupleof pics of the recovered barnes(sorryfor the poor quality). I will attempt to attach them in one post if possible but have never had much luck so if not bare with the additional posts. |

Finally here is the moose that the above TSX was recovered from. Opps forgot to mention .284/140gr TSX fired from a 7mm rem mag.
