Default Bear Scat

Howdy,
I was lucky enough to draw a Michigan bear tag this year for the Baraga Bear Unit in the U.P. I'm a first-timer when it comes to bear. I've been baiting now for a couple of weeks and have been having a lot of action. Recently I found some fresh scat near my bait pile. I was wondering if it's possible to accurately estimate a bear's size by the size of his ****. It's been real dry so I can't get any paw prints. The turd was about 2 inches in diameter. Any help would be appreciated. Just wanna make sure I'm not baiting a cub. Thanks

When look for scat, I like to see scat that is as big around as a pop can. (slightly larger than 2" in dia.). That scat you see is probably from an average to decent sized bear.

Yep, usually the bigger the poop, the bigger the bear that made it. If its bigger than a soda can like Hillbilly said, you have a nice bear there!

Make a pad area using old cooking grease. Get some from a restraunt or make some yourself. Get a sandy area and pour the grease in slow and mix up the sand until you get a good gooey area. Then smooth it over so you can get a track. Measure the large pad and add an inch to see how the bear would square out. Example: 4" pad + 1" = 5' square bear rug.
