2005 Bear contest signup
 

OK. I see there are a few people posting in the other thread I started so I'll start a signup. Any bear taken From 1/1/05 to 12/31/05counts so if you already got one you can enter it. I don't care if we get 3 people or 100 people to enter I just want to do it for fun. I'm gonna have a t-shirt made up for the winner so when it's over I'll send the winner a pm with the info I need to send it to him or her. We're gonna go by dressed weight since it's the easiest. Just copy the list to your post and add your name in the next slot. Good Luck.

I'm in, count me in for 235 lbs dressed. I killed a fall bear and it was bigger than the spring bear, that is the reason why the post was edited.

OK sounds like the rules are pretty simple so I'll write out what I think and you guys can add or offer suggestions.


1. As stated earlier any bear taken from 1/1/05 to 12/31/05 counts
2. Person with the heaviest dressed weight wins
3. Archery or rifle count
4. Black bear only
5. Must have a pic of you with the bear posted to be entered. (a scoring thread will be started for this purpose)

ummmm...that's all I can think of for now.;)

oh yea...is there any way this could get pinned to the top so it doesn't get lost? If not no big deal. Thanks.

Hey bearklr. I was just wondering about the dressed weight. We just cut the front and hind quarters and backstraps off our bears. My uncle is an outfitter and we skin and weightthe bears at his place, andhe can get in huge trouble for posessingbear gall bladders. So we don't usually open them up.Just wondering if I could just subtract a certain % of the weight from my bear. (IF i even get one!) Ormac

If you weigh the entire bear in tact I beleive that the dressed weight would be roughly 15% less. This is what a game commission officer told me anyway so if you do happen to get one and weigh it before it's gutted we'll just subtract 15%.

for example: If you weigh an intact bear and he tips the scales at 400 lbs then we would subtract 15% or 60 lbs thus making the official weight 340 lbs. Does anyone have a problem with this method or any better ideas.;)

That sounds good. I was always told add 15 - 17 % on the dressed weight to find "live" weight.
That works. 15% it is.

Sounds like fun. This is my first year bear hunting, went out in spring saw lots of sows and cubs,( 3 sets of triplets!) but no shooter boars. Going up on Thursday for our opener so hopefully will have a weight and pic. I was drawn for all animals in the big game draw here, mule deer , elk ,moose and antelope. Also trying to get the bear and a whitetail to comeplete a Saskatchewan slam. I have never heard of anyone else around here getting drawn for all so its a darn good excuse to try to hunt as much as possible this year!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Western, that sounds like a good idea to me. However, I'm only getting a shirt made up for the overall biggest bear if that's OK. I also think we should have a deadline for entry. Anyone have a suggestion on that one?

As far as a closing date...when does the last bear season close? It doesn't close here in Washington until Nov 15. I would think that one or two days after the last season would be enough.

OK. Here's the updated list as of now and this is how the deadlines are gonna work. 1st, the deadline for signing up witll be Sept 9th. (I was gonna use the 1st but I thought it wasn't enough notice). The deadline for entering your submission will be Dec 16th. That should give everyone enough time to get their pics and weights posted. I will start another thread for submitting your scores. As stated earlier you must post a pic of yourself with the bear as well as the dressed weight. Good luck to everyone this season and looking forward to some nice pics.;)
