Just wondering if Elk are normally found in alpine tundra?

Yes, elk regularly travel above timber line and hang out on the grassy "tundra" to keep cool and graze. The later in the season and the cooler the temps get they will begin to move farther down into the valleys and head to their wintering grounds.

Look on North(ish) facing slopes as it gets less sunlight and stays a good bit cooler during the day than the Southern(ish) facing slopes.
