RE: Elk Hunting, How much can you do?
I hunt in Wyo, Idaho and Utah. Here is a breakdown of each.
Wyoming: 1 tag, all seasons, don't have to choose yourweapon(i.e. bow hunt, then pick up the rifle and go, etc.) Non-resident draw only. Utah: 2 tags, 1 bull tag either general or limited entryand one cow tag. The LE and cow tags are draws and the general can be bought over the counter as a resident for any bull units or spike units. You must choose your weapon too. Non-resident draw only or conservation tags (extremely expensive) Idaho: 2 tags, you buy them over the counter or put in for special hunts. You can A or B tags and every unit is a little different or can be. For example, the unit I hunt is over the counter A tag, archery only. I can shoot a bull, and then go buy another A tag if any are left over. They have state wide quota. With all of that in mind. I will be hunting the following: Idaho- Archery Elk Utah- Archery Elk LE (Monroe) tag (still can't believe I drew it) and waiting to hear on my cow tag results (Any Weapon). Plus, Archery Mule Deer. Wyoming- Nothing. |
RE: Elk Hunting, How much can you do?
the area i hunt in idaho, i can hunt cow elk for 2 weeks (with shot gun slug or bow), then it turns to any elk for 4 weeks( bow only), then it turns to spike only for a week( any weapon), with an Atag. as for deer , if i understand it right , i can go from unit to unit with my general deer tag, whether its archery or rifle, during each units season, i think some one broke it down once,, if you wanted to , you could hunt something like 120 days for one deer.
